Buying a Button Machine!

Journal Entry: Sun May 26, 2013, 7:39 AM

I'm ordering a 1-1/4" Button Machine Tomorrow!
$499. I'm dying. But It'll be great. It'll pay itself off quickly.

-

I'll be able to make some pretty rad buttons for cons, AND for sale online. I'll also be able to take custom orders (e.g. you email me with your oc or any fandom character - I'll draw it and buttonify it, and mail it to you).

That said, I'm wondering about personal preferences here! Do you guys prefer etsy or storeevny (for ease of buying)? Or do you have any other suggestions?

I did a vote-y thing on tumblr awhile ago and %90 of people definitely wanted the 1-1/4" buttons. But I'm open to last minute opinions. I think I'll do a last minute poll here. But as always - all thoughts appreciated!

Journal Entry: Mon Mar 25, 2013, 6:25 PM

Firstly, thank you so much for all the wonderful birthday comments and notes. You guys are the bomb.com, like for real. I want you to know I feel so lucky to have people who not only vaguely like my art - but also stick around for me? just brilliant. And I'm super grateful for every one of you.

Secondly - I'm freaking 20 years old!

Thirdly? I got accepted into the University of New Brunswick. Oldest school in North America. I can't believe it after I sort of sucked at the first university I went to (to take english and soc), and then ran off to England and blew all the cash. But I did it, I'm a student again! And this time it's a Bachelor of Applied Arts (Craft and Design), with a focus on Integrated Media. So I'll be getting to do everything from video editing and audio engineering to graphic design and character work and animation and even little side classes on screen printing and life drawing. I'm so unbelievably excited.

Amandil and Saying Goodbyes

Journal Entry: Mon Jan 28, 2013, 6:18 PM

Tonight Loz (Alatariel-Amandil) and I finally got to meet IRL! We met online through Marauder art on dA ages ago ... literally ... but tonight we met for realsies, under a full freaking moon, on a train to London.

And she is just the awesomest in real life.

Just as awesome as she's always been online.

And a good time was certainly had.

(hope to see you soon girl Xx)

So all has been fantastic... really, but all that is good must come to an end, and that leaves me with the annoying news that I will be leaving lovely England in one week's time, and heading back to frigid - 40 New Brunswick, Canada. Oh lordy. It's been... well it's been beyond what I ever dreamed it would be. Really, truly. And someday I'll post a trip summary, highlighting the best parts and suggesting little nuggets of awesome for you future travellers. If I can bring myself to do so without bursting into tears. This was my dream, and it's tough to say goodbye. But like I said, it more than delivered for me. It's been positively magical.

Much love to all your faces. Xx

Happy Christmas and Merry Holidays

Journal Entry: Sun Dec 16, 2012, 4:50 PM

Hello friends! Holidays are here! Yes!

This is my first Christmas away from home, and not just by a couple hours - there's a whole ocean between my family/friends and me. Go big or go home, right?! That said, London really is beautiful right now. The lights down Oxford Street and Regent street are unbelievable, and the Christmas market along the Southbank is essentially from a Studio Ghibli film.

As a slightly downer - the chick I travelled here with got back with her boyfriend and is ditching me, so I'll be rocking the last month here alone. My live-in landlady is also going overseas on boxing day for a few weeks - so New Years is going to be a solo affair. What's a girl to do? Hint: I've purchased 4 boxes of stuffing mix and a crate of Ginger Beer.

Truthfully it's all good, I actually love the idea of having the flat to myself. :D

I can stay up all night and blast festive music and blog and watch top gear and eat and burst christmas crackers and not wear pants.

Yes.

Have a really good Holiday season guys, I wish you all the very best! Merry Christmas!

Kuretake UK Design Team + London Life

Journal Entry: Wed Nov 7, 2012, 7:53 AM

Hello friends!

So firstly, I'm loving London! It's an amazing city and the weather is just right for me. Next week I'm taking the train from Kings Cross up to Edinburgh for a few days, and I'm sure it'll be absolutely amazing too. So far I've been in the studio audience for a show at the BBC, I've seen Top Gear Live, went to a Hey Rosetta! concert and have walked over nearly every inch of this place! I also went to the MCM London Comic Con a week ago, got into Matt Smith's panel, and met Rooster Teeth.

What was even better than that is I stopped at a booth for Kuretake.

They make the pens that I've used to ink my traditional drawings since the beginning of time. I LOVE their supplies. They had laid out a giant roll of paper for people to test out their materials on - and I'll be honest, I had a field day. I drew all sorts of cartoons and potter art and then signed it 'Avender'.

Flash forward to a few days ago: they tracked me down online using my pseudonym (they probably ended up right here actually), and asked me to be on their Kuretake UK Design Team.

What this means is I'll be getting to test drive their fabulous products and show you all how awesome they are!

Keep an eye out for that, and check them out on Facebook and Twitter!

And while you're there, drop me a like on my Facebook Art page!

Love your faces!

Up, Up and Away

Journal Entry: Thu Sep 20, 2012, 12:30 PM

4 DAYS, 4 DAYS, 4 DAYS. Until I hop on the plane, cross the pond and land in lovely London!

It's finally here! From hatching this adventuring in my dorm room last winter, to working a ridiculous amount of hours and all that jazz - it's just unbelievable to realize that this time is finally here. Bags are almost packed, laptop converter bought, money ready. Thunderbirds are GO.

Also, the amount of baggage seen below is accurate. All 70 lbs of it. To be trekked across London, from Heathrow to Paddington station, to Kings Cross station, to Woodford Station, and then the walk to my vacation house. BUT IT'LL BE FUN, RIGHT. Ahahaha

hey fireflies (London, Con Updates, Art)

Journal Entry: Thu Jul 19, 2012, 11:02 PM

SUMMUH. It's flying by!

So, I'm leaving for England this September for 5 months. It's getting so close, I can't even believe it myself! Just confirmed the apartment too, it's in a little area just outside of Central London called Woodford Green. I'm still working my butt off to pay for everything in advance, but it's looking like we'll manage to skim past with a bit of wiggle room too! More on this closer to the date ... there are still several things that could happen (border crossing papers not going through, flight changes, ect) but my fingers are firmly crossed and it's looking more and more like I'll be kissing platform 9 3/4 in a matter of months.

That said, whatever happens, I'll be back in Canada by February!! And I'm looking to expand my con-going portfolio! So far I've been to Animaritime in the atlantic provinces, and the Anime Expo in Toronto. But with my fresh passport and a satchel filled with goofy art prints - I'm looking to hit up a few more conventions across North America next year! I'm looking into the San Diego Comic Con for sure (just as a con-goer, not artists alley), and possibly Anime North in Canada. Any suggestions would be appreciated though! Especially cons happening along the east coast (New York, ect).

Lately everything else has been pretty good! I'm falling into a little bit of a personal rut in regards to my art though. I love doing fan art, and I know that's what most of you love - and I will continue to do it! -  but I'm going to start releasing more and more of my personal art as well. I love my characters and want to give them a little bit of the spotlight in my gallery. So they're on the way, as well as my usual quota of marauder related nonsense!

Cheers for now~

Animaritime!

Journal Entry: Sat Mar 3, 2012, 9:43 PM

My very best friend iHeartMagster is in desperate need of half a table in Artists Alley at Animaritime this year. She missed the sign up because they sold out in a day - and she is completely wrecked because of this. So if you have a full table or two and can spare her a single spot she and I will be eternally grateful to you. She's the nicest girl I know. Message me or her here on Deviantart if you can help her out!

She'll pay you for her spot, and you and I can do a little art trading if you're interested~~~

She's a super nice and polite girl (who will totally watch your stuff when you want to go out for a break), and she'll keep her stuff to her side and not get in the way, yatta yatta - she's the best. And we will love you forever if you can help her out!

The First Nineteen Years of My Life ...

Journal Entry: Sat Jan 7, 2012, 12:37 PM

The first nineteen years of my life, nothing happened. Nothing at all, not ever. And then ...
- Rose Tyler
--

I'm still 18, but the big 19 is coming up for me in March. This past year held a lot of crazy for me ... I graduated, I had a leading role in the greatest play of my life, I started university, my art improved, and I've been a mess of anxiety, happiness and confusion.

Before coming to university I was in the mind set that I had to decide what I wanted to be for the rest of my life right then. So I decided to follow in the footsteps of some of my greatest influences and become a high school teacher. But this past year has felt wrong to me. I feel like I'm trapped and I keep daydreaming about travelling. So that was when I made the greatest decision of my life (one that I've wanted to make since I was 7 years old). Next fall I'm moving to London for 6 - 12 months to work (either a light job at a cafe or a pub, or a entry level desk job at the BBC if I can manage). I'm not dropping out of university, I'm just freezing my life here for a year while I go off to adventure and think about what I want to do. I'll probably come back and pick up as an art/english teacher again, or I might go into animation or television production or something else completely! I just know that I need to freeze everything here for a little while and go enjoy myself in England to think about things.

I'll get to visit/sell art at English conventions, meet Alatariel-Amandil, walk by the Thames, draw in parks, watch my favourite shows on television (instead of the internet) and just find myself overall.

This year will be completely new to me, but what will come will come and I'll face it when it does!

Have a great 2012 all!

Happy New Year!

Journal Entry: Sat Dec 31, 2011, 1:27 PM

2011 was a busy year. I graduated, I got to play one of my dream roles on stage, I won an acting award, I started University, my art improved since 2010 and I learned quite a bit about myself during all this~

I hope you all have a wonderful, healthy 2012!

Love you all~

Do you guys want to see....

Journal Entry: Fri Dec 9, 2011, 10:01 AM

I'm planning on buying a domain name for an art website, but I'm wondering what you would all like to see!?

Either I can do a general portfolio (will ALL the art), or I could do a Potter Art website (similar to www.nocturnalsoldier.org/Teali… who was the Potter artist who inspired me to draw ... I spent hours upon hours going through her stuff when I was eleven), OR I could do a general art site, with large sections dedicated to Harry Potter fanart and Dr Who fanart.

Thoughts?

Art School II

Journal Entry: Sat Nov 26, 2011, 8:14 PM

So I've pretty much decided to take Fine Arts at my university. I'm failing a few of my other classes because I'm not interested in them... not because I'm bad at them, but because I'm bored and no amount of 'smartening up' will change that.

So.. yep. I need to sort out my portfolio over the next few months.. unfortunately my existing portfolio is 95% digital and that just wont do for the Fine Arts program. I need to make some paintings, fill some sketchbooks with gestural drawings, ect.. so that's what I'm up to!

I'm also planning on studying abroad in my third year ... a few months in the UK, or France or New Zealand..

I'm also apartment hunting in Sackville, and my parents are buying me a 21 inch iMac and Flash too so I can focus a little more on my digital art on the side of my traditional courses.

Yeah.. I think this will be good~
